Box Score Seton Hill headed east for its final PSAC Crossover doubleheader of the season as they battled #17 Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins erased a 13 point Bloomsburg lead in the second half but could not score down the stretch as the Huskies defeated the Griffins 71-63. SHU falls to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in PSAC play.
After Bloomsburg hit the first basket of the game, SHU got a three pointer from
Kelly Brennan and a basket from
Cha Cha Williams to take a 5-2 lead. A three point play from
Meghan Mastroianni extended the SHU lead to 10-6 early in the half. Alex Hay hit a jumper and
Jenna Kaufman drailed a three as the Griffins built their lead to 15-8 just 8 minutes into the contest. Four straight points from
Lindsey Mifsud gave SHU a 19-12 lead with 10:39 left in the half. The Griffins then went 5 minutes without a point as Bloomsburg went on a 12-0 run to take a 24-19 lead. Mastroianni ended the run with a layin and Mifsud hit one of two free throws to trim the lead to 24-22.
Mariah Wells then hit a three to give the Griffins a 25-24 lead at the under four media timeout. Bloomsburg built their largest lead of the contest at 34-27 before Mifsud hit a three pointer at the end of the half with the Griffins trailing 34-30. Seton Hill outrebounded the Huskies 22-11 but committed 17 turnovers to 9 for the Huskies. Mifsud led the Griffins with 10 points.
The Huskies were able to build their lead to 45-35 coming out of the halftime break as they outscored the Griffins 11-5 over the first five minutes of the half. BU built their lead to 53-40 at the under 12 media timeout. Back to back threes from
Mariah Wells and
Lindsey Mifsud cut the lead back to 53-46.
Meghan Mastroianni cut the BU lead to 55-50 with 8:50 to play in the half.
Kelly Brennan followed with a three and the BU lead was just 55-52 with just under 8 minutes to play in the half. Brennan then hit another three to cut the Huskies lead to 57-55 with 6 minutes left in the half.
Cha Cha Williams tied the game at 57 with a putback basket with 5:23 to play. The Huskies hit four free throws to build the lead back to 61-57 with just over 4 minutes to play in the half. BU then went on a 6-0 run to take a 63-57 lead.
Jenna Kaufman hit two free throws to end the mini BU run. Mastroianni answered a BU three with a three of her own and SHU trailed 66-62 with 1:46 left. BU outscored the Griffins 5-1 down the stretch for a 71-63 win.
Kelly Brennan led the Griffins with 15 points.
Lindsey Mifsud added 14 points for the Griffins.
Meghan Mastroianni just missed a double double with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Jennna Kaufman finished with 9 points.
Seton Hill will continue their PSAC Crossover weekend when they play at East Stroudsburg on Sunday afternoon.
