Griffins Open Second Half of PSAC Play with Loss at Edinboro

Seton Hill opened the second half of PSAC West play with a road trip to Edinboro University on Wednesday evening.  Seton Hill battled back in the second half, cutting the lead to seven points but fell by an 86-73 score.  SHU falls to 8-12 overall and 5-10 in PSAC play.
 
The Griffins stayed close with Edinboro over the early part of the contest as Kelly Brennan hit a three pointer to tie the score at seven at the 16:20 mark of the half.  Over the next four minutes, the Fighting Scots got hot from three point land and outscored the Griffins 17-5 to take a 24-12 lead with 12:22 left in the half, forcing a SHU timeout.  Edinboro hit four three pointers during their run.  The Scots hit two more buckets before Jenna Kaufman and Chelsea Apke hit two layins from Lindsey Mifsud to cut the lead to 28-16 at the 10 minute mark.  The Scots hit two more threes to extend their lead to 37-23 at the under four minute media timeout.  The Scots closed out the half with a three pointer from 30 feet out to take a 49-34 halftime lead. 
 
SHU cut the Scots lead to 56-42 at the under 16 media timeout.  Apke had two buckets for the Griffins.  A layin from Mifsud cut the Scots lead to single digits at 58-49 with 13 minutes remaining in the half.  Two Jharrin Gill free throws cut the lead to 61-53 with 11:40 to play and the Griffins had three more possessions to trim the lead but failed to score and get any closer.  Cha Cha Williams layin with 7:50 to play trimmed the Scots lead to 66-59.  Edinboro built its lead back up to 80-70 at the under four media timeout.  Meghan Mastroianni drilled a three to cut the lead to 80-73 with 2:50 left.  Edinboro answered with a free throw and a huge three pointer to extend the lead back to 84-73.    
 
Chelsea Apke led the Griffins with 12 points.  She also added 6 rebounds.   Kelly Brennan finished with 11 points.  Cha Cha Williams was the other Griffin in double figures with 10 points.  Meghan Mastroianni and Lindsey Mifsud each added 9 points.  Mifsud finished with 7 assists.
 
Seton Hill will travel to #5 Indiana (PA) on Saturday evening.  Tip is set for 5:30 PM.
