Box Score Seton Hill hosted Gannon University in the McKenna Center on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins played right with the Knights in the first half, trailing only 40-38 at the half but the Knights outscored the Griffins 41-24 in the second half for a 81-62 victory. SHU falls to 8-11 overall and 5-9 in PSAC play. Gannon improves to 13-4 overall and 12-2 in PSAC play.
Gannon took an early 13-7 lead five minutes into the contest. The Griffins then got hot from three point land and went on a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 21-16 lead.
Mariah Wells hit two three pointers over the run with
Halie Torris and
Jenna Kaufman each hitting a three. Torris also added a lay in during the run. Gannon then responded with the next 8 points to take back a 24-21 lead with 7:49 left in the half. Wells then hit another three pointer to tie the score at 26 with 6:49 to play in the first half. The Knights scored the next 4 points with the Griffins answering with the next 5 on a free throw from
Kelly Brennan, two free throws from Torris and a layup from Kaufman to take a 31-30 lead. Back to back three pointers from Kaufman and Torris gave the Griffins a 37-34 lead with just over two minutes to play in the half. A free throw from Kaufman pushed the lead to 38-34 before the Knights closed out the half with two three pointers in the last 30 seconds to take a 40-38 halftime lead. Torris led the Griffins with 10 at the half. Wells and Kaufman each added 9 points in the first half.
The game remained tight over the first six minutes of the second half. The Knights built their lead to 48-42 but a three pointer from Wells and a layin from
Chelsea Apke cut the Gannon lead to 48-47 with 13:49 to play. From that point on it was all Gannon as they went on a 12-2 run to open a 60-49 lead with 10:28 to play. Wells hit a three to trim the lead to 62-54 with just over 9 minutes to play and
Jharrin Gill hit a three to cut the lead to 65-57 with 7:10 left but the Knights outscored the Griffins 16-5 over the last seven minutes to take away a 81-62 victory.
Mariah Wells led the Griffins with 17 points on 5-9 shooting including 5-7 from three point land.
Halie Torris was the only other Griffin in double figures with 10 points.
Jenna Kaufman finished the contest with 9 points and
Cha Cha Williams added 8 points.
Gannon shot 46% from the floor compared to 39% for the Griffins. The Knights held a huge advantage on the boards, 50-27, including a 22-8 advantage on the offensive boards.
Seton Hill will hit the road for a three game roadtrip starting with a PSAC West battle at Edinboro on Wednesday. Tip is set for 5:30 PM.
