Box Score Seton Hill returned to PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon when they hosted the Golden Eagles of Clarion. The Griffins drained 6 three pointers in the first half and cruised to a 73-57 victory. With the win, the Griffins improve to 6-9 overall and 3-7 in PSAC play.
The Griffins scored the first five points of the contest on a three pointer from
Kelly Brennan and a basket from
Meghan Mastroianni. Clarion was able to cut the lead to 9-7 before Seton Hill went on a 11-1 run on a three pointer from
Halie Torris, a layin from
Jenna Kaufman and back to back threes from Mastroianni at the 10 minute mark of the first half. Clarion responded with a 13-3 run to cut the SHU lead to 23-21 with 2:40 remaining in the half.
Cha Cha Williams ended the Eagle run with a bucket and layins from Mastroianni and
Chelsea Apke pushed the lead back to 29-21 with a minute to play. After a Clarion jumper, Brennan closed out the half the same way she opened it by draining a three to give SHU a 32-23 advantage. Mastroianni led the Griffins with 12 points while Brennan added 6.
Seton Hill was able to push its lead to 20 points, 47-27 just over five minutes into the second half. Clarion pulled back to within 51-34 before SHU scored 8 straight to increase the lead back to 59-34 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the half. Clarion hit back to back three pointers before
Jenna Kaufman ended the run with a three point play to extend the lead back to 62-40 with 9:17 to play.
Lindsey Mifsud hit a three to increase the lead to 65-41 before the Griffins settled in for the 73-57 victory.
Kelly Brennan scored a team high 15 points for the Griffins.
Meghan Mastroianni finished with 12 points and
Jenna Kaufman was the other Griffin in double figures with 11 points.
Chelsea Apke finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds while
Lindsey Mifsud added 8 points off the bench.
The Griffins assisted on 20 of 29 field goals while shooting 44% from the floor and 47 % from three point land. The Griffins held Clarion to 36% from the floor. The Griffins outscored the Golden Eagles 28-14 in the paint, 26-12 off turnovers and 29-9 in bench scoring.
The Griffins will continue PSAC West play on Wednesday when they host Slippery Rock. Tip is set for 5:30 PM.
