Box Score Seton Hill continued PSAC West play at California on Tuesday evening. Seton Hill jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead taking the first two sets before the Vulcans stormed back to win the match by taking the final three sets. SHU drops to 14-2 overall and 5-2 in PSAC play.
The Griffins came out of the gates flying and took a quick 4-0 lead over the Vulcans. Two of those points came from
Corrine Gahagen aces. Cal scored the next 5 points to take a 5-4 lead. SHU scored the next three points and would never trail in the set again. Cal tied the set up at 18 before the Griffins scored the next 6 points to take control of the set. A kill from
Abigail Malsch gave the Griffins a 25-19 first set win.
Seton Hill continued their hot play in the second set. Cal took a 5-4 lead early in the set. SHU then scored the next 4 points to take an 8-5 lead. The Griffins then went on an 8-0 run to take control of the second set and lead 16-6. Cal would only get as close as 9 points the rest of the set as SHU took a 2-0 lead with a 25-15 win in the second set.
Cal scored the first three points of the third set.
Shelby Kyllo got the Griffins on the board with a kill. Cal then scored three more points before
Cassie Hausfeld's kill cut the Cal lead to 6-2. Cal was able to extend their lead to 17-5. Kyllo then ran off five straight points serving, forcing a Cal timeout at 22-14. Two aces from Kyllo started the run. Cal won the third set 25-15 to cut the SHU lead to 2-1.
The third set was back and forth early with neither team holding more than a one point lead. Cal finally took the first multiple point lead at 10-8 on an ace. The Vulcans then extended their lead to 15-11. Cal led 24-20 before the Griffins tied the match at 24 on the serve of Gahagen. Cal then won the next two points to send the match to a fifth set.
Emily Gilles started off the fifth set with a kill. Gilles second kill of the set tied the set at three. Back to back kills from Hausfeld gave SHU a 6-4 lead. Another Hausfeld kill extended the lead to 7-5. A block from
Courtney Field and Gahagen gave SHU an 8-5 lead at the switchover. Field's kill on two gave SHU the 9-7 lead. Cal scored the next three to take a 10-9 lead. Gahagen tied the set at 10 with a kill. Cal won the fifth set by a 15-11 score.
Corrine Gahagen and
Cassie Hausfeld each led the Griffins with 17 kills.
Abigail Malsch finished with 11 kills.
Shelby Kyllo added 9.
Courtney Field led with 41 assists. Hausfeld led with 19 digs. Malsch,
Lauren Teed and
Courtney Oberlander each had 15 digs.
The Griffins will host Edinboro on Friday evening at 7 PM.
