SHU Drops First Match of the Season at Clarion

Seton Hill and Clarion opened PSAC West play at Tippin Gymnasium on Friday evening.  Both teams entered the contest with unbeaten records.  Clarion kept their record unbeaten with a 3-0 victory.  The Griffins fall to 13-1 overall and 4-1 in PSAC play. 

The first set was very tightly played with neither team holding more than a two point lead until Clarion went on a 5-0 run to take a 24-20 lead in the set.  The Golden Eagles took the first set by a 25-22 score.  Clarion led the entire second set and held a 21-16 lead before the Griffins scored four of the next five points to cut the lead to 22-20.  SHU got to within 24-23 but Clarion won the second set by a 25-22 score.  The Griffins came out of the gates early in the third set and took an 11-7 lead.  Clarion responded with six straight points to take a 13-11 lead and closed out the Griffins with a 25-22 third set victory.

Shelby Kyllo led the Griffins with 14 kills.  Abigail Malsch finished with 9 kills.  Kyllo also added 3 blocks.  Courtney Field ended the match with 26 assists and 4 kills.  Lauren Teed led the Griffins with 14 digs.

Seton Hill will continue PSAC West play on Saturday when they travel to Indiana, PA to take on the Crimson Hawks at noon.
