Griffins Win Overtime Thriller at Wheeling Jesuit, 1-0

Box Score

The Griffin soccer team continued its nonconference schedule with a road contest at Mountain East foe Wheeling Jesuit on Wednesday night.  The game was scoreless through the first 90 minutes before the Griffins netted the game winner 4:18 into the first overtime period for a 1-0 road win.  SHU improves to 2-0-1 on the season.

The first half was closely played as the Griffins held a 5-4 advantage in shots.  Wheeling held a 9-6 advantage in the second half but Griffin keeper Cameron Evans kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard with 6 saves in the second half, sending the game to overtime tied at 0.  The Griffins were able to find the back of the net 4:18 into the first overtime period when Bovey Masiole scored off a great pass from Ben Alport to end the contest.  Evans was spectacular in net, earning his second straight shutout of the season, making 9 saves.

The Griffins will return to action next Wednesday afternoon when they host Salem International for a 5:30 PM start.
