Nate Perry scored 21 points in his return to the lineup and sparked the Griffins to an 81-71 victory over Clarion at home on Wednesday evening in an important PSAC West battle. With the victory, the Griffins improve to 14-9 overall and 6-7 in PSAC West play. SHU sits in fifth place currently in league with the top six teams making the playoffs.
SHU took an early lead on a basket from
Nate Perry, his first since returning from an injury, at 13-6 with 10:23 to play in the half. The Griffins held that lead until the 3:50 mark of the half when Clarion hit a three pointer to take a 30-29 lead. Clarion built that lead to 34-32 before the Griffins closed out the half on a 7-0 run kicked off by a Perry three pointer and ended with a jumper from
Oliver McGlade that gave the Griffins a 39-34 halftime lead.
After Clarion cut the lead to 41-39 early in the second half, the Griffins built the lead right back up to eight with a 6-0 run. Clarion answered right back with a 11-3 run to take a 50-49 lead with 13:06 to play. Two three pointers from
Nate Perry sparked a 12-2 run to give the Griffins a 61-51 lead with just over 11 minutes to play. Clarion came right back with a 11-3 run to trim the lead to 64-62 with 5:30 to play. Clarion was able to cut the lead to four at 74-70 but the Griffins closed out the contest by hitting their free throws to seal the victory.
Nate Perry led the Griffins with 21 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor with five three pointers.
David Windsor and
Malachi Leonard each scored 16 points.
Kameron Taylor was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 13 points. He also added 10 rebounds.
Seton Hill will travel to Pitt Johnstown on Saturday for another PSAC West battle.
