Stossel Scores 1,000th Career Point as Griffins Fall at #4 Gannon

The Seton Hill women made the long trip up I-79 to Erie to battle the number four ranked Gannon University Golden Knights.  Seton Hill led the Knights at the halftime break but Gannon got hot from three point land in the second half and came away with a 64-53 victory.  SHU falls to 12-8 overall and 4-6 in PSAC West play. 
 
Seton Hill came out of the gates fast and took a quick 6-2 lead on baskets from Jharrin Gill and Meghan Mastroianni and two free throws from Tiara Stossel.  Stossel's three pointer gave SHU a 9-6 lead with 13:55 to play.  The Knights then went on an 8-0 run to take a 14-9 lead.  SHU responded with two free throws by Kelly Brennan and a three pointer from Paige Alviani to tie the score at 14 with 7:40 to play in the half.  SHU then went on a 6-2 run to take a 20-16 lead.  The Griffins then hit five of six from the line to extend the lead to 25-21 with 2:21 left in the half.  Stossel's jumper gave the Griffins a 27-23 lead before the Knights hit a three pointer to close the half as Seton Hill took a 27-26 halftime lead.  Stossel led the Griffins with 10 points.
 
Katie Gattuso started off the second half by hitting four of four free throws and a layin by Paige Alviani gave the Griffins their largest lead of the game at 33-28 with 17:55 to play.  Tiara Stossel scored her 1,000th career point on a jumper that tied the score at 35 with 13:35 to play in the second half.  The Knights then hit five three pointers to extend their lead to 47-39 with 9:15 left in the second half.  Alviani hit a running jumper and Kelly Brennan drained a three but the Knights were able to hold their lead at 8 points at 52-44 at the under eight media timeout.  Back to back buckets from Gattuso cut the lead to 52-48 but the Knights went on a 4-0 run to increase the lead back to 56-48 forcing another Griffin timeout.  Alviani hit a three to trim the lead to 60-51 but Gannon closed out the contest from the free throw line. 
 
Tiara Stossel led the Griffins with 15 points.  She also added 7 rebounds.  Paige Alviani finished the contest with 13 points.  Katie Gattuso also reached double figures with 10 points.
 
The Griffins will host Edinboro on Wednesday in a PSAC West contest.
