Box Score Seton Hill and Gannon met on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center with second place in the PSAC West and a home quarterfinal match on the line. The Griffins used the energy of a great Senior Day crowd and some awesome play on the court for a three set sweep of the visiting Knights to clinch second place in the PSAC West and a home playoff game on Tuesday evening. SHU improves to 29-4 overall and 18-4 in PSAC play while Gannon falls to 24-5 overall and 17-5 in PSAC play.
Gannon took an early 3-0 lead in the first set. A kill from
Courtney Field erased that three point lead and tied the set at three.
Corrine Gahagen's kill increased the lead to 8-6.
Maggie Murray gave SHU a five point advantage at 12-7 with a kill.
Shelby Kyllo and
Cassie Hausfeld combined for a block and SHU led 16-10. Back to back kills from Gahagen increased the Griffins lead to 20-17. Gannon rallied to tie the set at 20. A Field kill gave SHU a one point advantage at 21-20. The set would then be tied at 21, 22, 23 and 24. SHU took the set by scoring the last two points for a 26-24 victory. Kyllo's ace ended the set. The second set was all Seton Hill. Murray's kill put SHU up 6-1. Kyllo and Murray combined on a block and SHU led 9-1. An ace and a kill from Kyllo pushed the lead to 18-4. SHU then held their own little version of a block party to extend the lead to 23-4. A kill from
Abigail Malsch ended the second set, 25-7, and gave SHU a 2-0 lead. The third set opened alot tighter than the second set. SHU trailed early before tying the set at 12. Back to back Kyllo aces gave SHU a 14-12 lead. Gahagen and Hausfeld combined on a block to extend the lead to 16-14. Gahagen followed with a kill and after a Knights error, the Griffins led 19-14. Two kills from Gahagen increased the lead to 21-15. Kyllo had a block and a kill to give SHU match point at 24-19. A Knights error gave the Griffins the set and the match 25-20.
Corrine Gahagen led the Griffins on Senior Day with 13 kills and only 1 error in 27 attempts. She also added 5 blocks.
Shelby Kyllo finished with 9 kills and 10 blocks.
Cassie Hausfeld ended the day with a match high 16 digs, 7 kills and 5 blocks.
Abigail Malsch added 6 kills.
Courtney Field had 29 assists. She also added 10 digs and 2 kills.
Lauren Teed finished with 11 digs while Malsch added 9.
Seton Hill will host Gannon on Tuesday evening at 7 PM in the quarterfinal round of the PSAC Tournament. The winner will advance to the PSAC Semifinals on Saturday and Sunday at the highest remaining seed in the western division.
