Box Score The Griffin volleyball team has now gone where no other Seton Hill volleyball team has been before, the semifinal round of a NCAA Regional, following a wild four set victory over Gannon in the quarterfinals. SHU took the first set before Gannon tied the match at 1. SHU took the last two sets to advance to the semifinals. SHU is now 32-5 overall.
Gannon jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set. SHU battled back to cut the lead to 6-3. An ace from
Corrine Gahagen trimmed the lead to 7-6 and a kill from
Shelby Kyllo tied the set at 7. Back to back kills from Kyllo and an ace from
Abigail Malsch gave SHU their first lead at 10-9. Gahagen put the Griffins ahead 13-12 with a kill. A kill from
Cassie Hausfeld from the back row gave SHU a 16-14 lead. Kyllo kept the lead at two with a kill and SHU led 17-15. Malsch followed with an ace to give SHU the 18-15 lead and force a Knights timeout. Malsch followed the timeout with another ace to make it 19-15. Another kill from Kyllo and SHU led 21-18. A Knights hitting error extended the lead to 22-18. Hausfeld's kill gave SHU a 23-20 lead. Malsch followed with a kill to give SHU a set point. Gahagen ended the set with a kill and SHU took a 1-0 lead with a 25-20 win.
SHU took a 4-2 lead in the second on an ace from Hausfeld. Gahagen pushed the lead back to 6-4 with a kill. Gannon fought back to take a 9-7 lead. Malsch ended the Knight run with a kill. Back to back kills from SHU and the Griffins held a 12-10 advantage. Gannon then went on a 5-1 run to force a Griffin timeout. Malsch cut the Gannon lead to 17-16 with a kill.
Emily Gilles tied the set at 17 with a kill. Gannon then scored three straight to take a 20-17 lead. Gahagen ended the run with a kill. Hausfeld cut the Knight lead to 22-20 with a kill. A kill from Kyllo and Gahagen cut the lead to 23-22, forcing the Knights to take their last timeout. Hausfeld saved a set point with a kill, cutting the lead to 24-23. Gannon tied the match at one with a 25-23 win in the second set.
A solo block from Kyllo gave SHU the early 5-3 lead in the third set. The Griffin run continued and SHU led 9-4, forcing the Knights to take their first timeout of the set. Gilles extends the Griffins lead to 11-4 in the third with a kill. SHU continued to extend their lead and forced the second Knight timeout of the set at 14-5. Gahagen pushed the lead to 10 with a kill after a great up from
Lauren Teed. An ace from Gahagen gave SHU a 20-9 advantage. Another solo block from Kyllo and SHU led 23-12. Hausfeld put the Griffins at set point. Gahagen ended the set with a kill and gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead with a 25-13 third set win.
Seton Hill took an early 6-3 lead in the fourth set. Gilles and Gahagen combined for a block to give SHU a 7-4 lead. Gahagen followed that with an ace. SHU continued to add on to its lead and forced a Knights timeout at 10-5.
Courtney Field got a kill on a tip to push the lead to 13-7. Gahagen goes lefty for a kill and SHU leads 14-8. Gahagen gets another kill and SHU leads 15-10. An ace from Field and a Gannon error forces the last Knights timeout of the set with SHU leading 17-10. A Knight's hitting error gave SHU a 21-14 lead. Kyllo pounded one to the ground giving the Griffins a 22-15 lead. Gahagen ended a little Knight run with a kill giving SHU a 23-17 lead. Gannon scores two straight cutting the lead to 23-19. The Knights score two more and cut the lead to 23-21, forcing the Griffins to use their last timeout. Gahagen ends the rally and gives SHU a 24-23 lead. Gilles gives the Griffins another match point with a kill. Kyllo gives SHU another match point at 26-25. Gilles block ends the set and gives SHU the match with a 27-25 win.
Corrine Gahagen led the Griffins with 17 kills.
