Box Score The volleyball team gave its fan's hearts a break on Saturday afternoon as they swept visiting Slippery Rock in a PSAC West volleyball matchup. Five of the Griffins previous seven matches had been five set matches coming into the matchup on Saturday. SHU improves to 16-2 overall and 7-2 in PSAC play.
The Griffins jumped all over the Rock, taking the first set by a 25-9 margin. SHU didnt let up in the second set and took a commanding 2-0 lead with a 25-15 win. Slippery Rock fought back in the third set but could not pull it out as the Griffins completed the sweep with a 25-23 third set win.
Corrine Gahagen led the Griffins with 10 kills. She also added 5 blocks.
Cassie Hausfeld,
Shelby Kyllo and
Abigail Malsch each added 8 kills. Kyllo also added 3 blocks.
Courtney Field ran the Griffin offense with 25 assists.
Lauren Teed finished with a match high 19 digs. Hausfeld added 11 more.
SHU will take the week off before returning to PSAC crossover action next weekend at Clarion. SHU will take on Kutztown and East Stroudsburg on Friday and then Cheyney and West Chester on Saturday.
