SHU Falls to Clarion 3-0 at Home

Seton Hill hosted Clarion in a huge PSAC West battle in the McKenna Center on Saturday afternoon.  Both teams entered the contest with great records.  Seton Hill battled Clarion tough in the first two sets and then dropped the third set for a 3-0 loss at home to the top ranked PSAC West team.  With the loss the Griffins fall to 24-4 overall and 13-4 in PSAC play.  Clarion improves to 25-2 overall and 16-1 in PSAC play.

Clarion jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead in the first set.  SHU battled back to tie the score at 14 and after two Corrine Gahagen kills led 18-16.  After two points from Clarion, Shelby Kyllo gave SHU a 19-18 lead on a kill.  Cassie Hausfeld's kill increased the lead to 21-19.  Clarion then closed the set out on a 6-1 run to take the first set 25-22.  The Golden Eagles again took an early lead in the second set, this time leading 13-9.  A kill from Gahagen cut the lead to 14-12 and a solo block from Emily Gilles cut the lead to 15-14.  A kill from Hausfeld tied the set at 18.  Another kill from Gahagen gave SHU a 20-18 lead and Hausfeld's kill made the score 21-19.  The Golden Eagles then ran off five straight to take a 24-21 lead.  Another Gahagen kill cut the lead to 24-23 but the Golden Eagles won the second set 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  The beginning of the third set was a different story as the Griffins jumped out to an early lead of 6-4.  A kill from Abigail Malsch put SHU up 10-9 and an ace from Kyllo increased the lead to 12-9.  Back to back blocks from the Golden Eagles keyed a run that sent the Eagles to a victory as they scored 16 of the last 19 points to win the set by a 25-15 score.

Corrine Gahagen led the Griffins with 14 kills.  Cassie Hausfeld added 11 kills.  No other Griffin had more than 5 kills.  Courtney Field finished the match with 28 assists.  Lauren Teed had a team high 18 digs while Courtney Oberlander added 12.

Seton Hill will return to action on Tuesday when they host California (PA) in another key PSAC West battle.  First serve is set for 7 PM.  Its also the team's Pink Match.
