Box Score Seton Hill concluded their Erie trip with a PSAC West contest at Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins responded from a 3-0 loss at Gannon on Friday to defeat Mercyhurst in five on the Lakers home court. SHU improves to 22-3 overall and 12-3 in PSAC play.
The first set was tightly played throughout with neither team holding more than a three point advantage. SHU led 18-16 before the Lakers ran off four straight points. SHU battled back to tie the set at 24 before the Lakers won the last two points for a 26-24 first set win. The second set was also played fairly close in the start. SHU started to take control of the set and led 16-12. Mercyhurst got to within one point at 19-18 before the Griffns took the second set 25-20. Seton Hill jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in the third set. They continued to hold a large lead throughout and took a 2-1 lead with a 25-20 victory. Mercyhurst took control of the fourth set with a 4-0 run to break a 9-9 tie and tied the match at two with a 25-20 victory. The fifth set started out tight, tied at four, but a 5-0 run from the Griffins put them in control of the deciding set and they cruised to a 15-8 win in the fifth set.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins in the match with 18 kills.
Corrine Gahagen followed with 14 kills.
Abigail Malsch also hit double figure kills with 11. Gahagen also added a match high 7 blocks.
Courtney Field dished out 52 assists.
Lauren Teed led the Griffins with 23 digs.
Katie Wenson added 13.
Seton Hill will take a break from PSAC play on Wednesday when they travel to Davis & Elkins.
