Griffins Fall 51-28 at IUP

Box Score

It was another case of close but no cigar for the Griffin football team as they played at Indiana on Saturday afternoon.  Seton Hill trailed 30-28 early in the fourth quarter but IUP scored the final 21 points for a 51-28 victory.  The Griffins fall to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in PSAC play.

Seton Hill took the opening kickoff and drove to the IUP 45 yard line before being forced to punt the ball back to IUP.  The Crimson Hawks returned the punt 96 yards for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.  SHU responded right back with a 5 play, 77 yard TD drive, ending with a 17 yard TD pass from Drew Jackson to Jarvis McClam to tie the score at 7.  IUP scored on their next possession from 2 yards out to take a 14-7 lead with 5:43 left in the first quarter.  The Griffins tied the score on a two yard run from Khalil Howard with 5 seconds left in the quarter that capped an 11 play, 80 yard drive.

The Griffins drove their first drive of the second quarter to the IUP 6 yard line but Jesser Boulnemour's 28 yard field goal was missed wide right.  On the Griffins next possession, IUP picked off Drew Jackson.  That set up IUP's next touchdown drive.  The Griffins blocked the extra point and IUP led 20-14 with 4:15 to play in the first half.  IUP continued to lead 20-14 at the half.

The Crimson Hawks then took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove 75 yards in 9 plays to extend their lead to 27-14.  After Seton Hill went three and out, the Griffins forced a three and out and Donato Clemente blocked the IUP punt and Tanelious Walton picked up the ball at the 14 yard line and returned it to the end zone for the Griffin touchdown and SHU trailed 27-21 with 7:19 left in the third quarter.

Indiana hit a 31 yard field goal on the second play of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 30-21.  The Griffins then drove 75 yards in 14 plays, the last a 1 yard TD catch from FJ Williams that cut the lead to 30-28 with 10:59 to play.  From that point on it was all Crimson Hawks as they scored the last three touchdowns of the contest to come away with the 51-28 victory.

For the second week in a row, the Griffins produced more first downs (25-22) and total offense (454-449) than its opponent.  Drew Jackson finished 44-71 for 440 yards with 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  FJ Williams caught 12 balls for 115 yards and 1 TD.  Jarvis McClam also finished with 12 catches for 93 yards and 1 score.  Josh Falatovich led the Griffins defense with 13 tackles.  Tim Johnson and Titus Morris each added 9.

Seton Hill will return to action next Saturday when they host Clarion for a 3 PM kickoff.
