Seton Hill battled Mercyhurst to open the second round of PSAC West play on Wednesday night at the McKenna Center. Seton Hill led 47-43 with over five minutes to play but a 14-0 Mercyhurst run ended the Griffins shot at a victory and SHU fell by a score of 57-47. The Griffins drop to 12-7 overall and 4-5 in PSAC West play.
Mercyhurst opened the game with a 7-0 run over the first five minutes of the contest.
Oliver McGlade and
Max Kenyi hit back to back three pointers to cut the lead to 7-6. McGlade then gave the Griffins their first lead of the contest at 11-9 with a three pointer at the 12:12 mark of the half. Neither team was able to stretch the lead much over the next five minutes and the Lakers held an 18-17 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the half. The Griffins then went on a 8-2 run to take a 25-20 lead with 4:28 to play. Mercyhurst tied the score with a 5-0 run of their own before the Griffins answered with a 5-0 run of their own to close out the half and take a 30-25 lead into the halftime break.
David Winsor's three with 14:58 to play in the half gave the Griffins a 37-29 lead. The Lakers then ran off seven straight to trim the lead to 37-36 with 12:29 to play in the second half.
Noah Davis answered with a three pointer to push the lead back to 40-36. Windsor's jumper at the 5:18 mark gave the Griffins a 47-43 lead but that would be the last point the Griffins would score. Mercyhurst scored the next 14 points to close out the half and take home a 57-47 victory.
David Windsor led the Griffins with 13 points.
Oliver McGlade added 12 points and
Malachi Leonard posted a double double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Griffins shot just 39% from the floor and committed 17 turnovers.
Seton Hill will travel to Gannon on Saturday afternoon to battle the Golden Knights in a PSAC West battle. Tip is set for 3 PM.
