Griffins Cruise to 88-66 Victory over Pitt Johnstown

The Griffin women's basketball team returned to PSAC West play on Wednesday evening when they hosted Pitt Johnstown.  Seton Hill cruised to a 88-66 victory and extended their winning streak to four with the victory.  SHU improves to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in PSAC West play. 

Mallory Sanner got the Griffins on the board first by draining a three pointer.  After two free throws from Tiara Stossel, Sanner hit another jumper to push the lead to 7-0 just two minutes into the contest.  UPJ battled back to cut the lead to 17-15 after a three pointer at the 12:31 mark.  Four straight points from Sara Pilarski pushed the lead back to 21-15.  Two UPJ free throws cut the lead to four before a 9-0 Griffin run pushed the lead back to 30-17 on a Meghan Mastroianni bucket at the 6:40 mark of the first half.  Another basket from Sanner and a three pointer from Stossel gave the Griffins a 35-20 lead with 4:44 to play.  SHU was able to hold that lead and entered the halftime break with a 45-27 advantage.  Katie Gattuso led the Griffins with 14 points in the first half.  Sanner finished the half with 9 points. 

Seven points from Paige Alviani in the first two minutes of the second half pushed the Griffin lead to 54-30 with 17:52 to play.  The Griffins were able to extend their lead to as many as 29 points in the second half before earning the 88-66 victory.

Katie Gattuso led the Griffins with another double double of 24 points and 11 rebounds.  Paige Alviani finished the contest with 19 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.  Tiara Stossel added 14 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.  Mallory Sanner was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 11 points.  She also added 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block.  Seton Hill outrebounded Pitt Johnstown by a 41-21 margin.  The Griffins shot 69% from the floor in the second half and finished shooting 57% from the floor. 

Seton Hill will look to make it five in a rown when they travel to Clarion on Saturday evening.
