Griffins Drop Homecoming Contest to #8 IUP 26-0

Box Score

The Griffin football team put up a battle on homecoming at Seton Hill against #8/9 Indiana (PA) but it was not enough as the Griffins dropped a 26-0 decision.  IUP led just 2-0 at the half but used 21 third quarter points to take control of the contest.  SHU falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in PSAC West play.

The game started slow with each team punting on its first two possessions.  The Griffin defense then made its first big play of the game as Chase Parker intercepted a pass at the IUP 30 yard line.  SHU failed to capitalize and failed to convert a fourth down.  IUP drove on their next possession but it was stopped by an interception by Ricardo Housen at the Griffin 1 yard line.  This led to the first points of the game as IUP blocked a punt for a safety to give them a 2-0 lead early in the second quarter.  After forcing an IUP punt, the Griffins drove 37 yards but missed a 37 yard field goal that would have given them a lead.  Neither team was able to score and the Crimson Hawks led 2-0 at the half.

After punting to start the second half, the Griffin defense forced another turnover when Tyler Zimmer recovered a fumble at the IUP 38.  SHU moved the ball to the IUP 25 but a 42 yard field goal was missed wide left.  IUP cracked the scoreboard with a touchdown run from 9 yards out that gave them a 9-0 lead with 4:39 to play in the third.  The next offensive play for the Griffins was intercepted by the Crimson Hawks and returned 39 yards to increase their lead to 16-0.  IUP closed out the third quarter scoring with a 21 yard TD run with 1:09 left in the third quarter.  IUP closed out the scoring with a 28 yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Nick Halfhill was 14-25 for 86 yards.  Rafal Garcarz had 4 receptions for 42 yards.  Tyler Zimmer led the team with 14 tackles.

The Griffins will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Edinboro for a 12 PM start.
