Late Goal Gives Griffins 3-2 Victory over Bloomsburg

Box Score

The men's soccer team earned their first ever PSAC victory and completed the sweep of Bloomsburg with a 3-2 victory.  Bloomsburg rallied to tie the score at two before the Griffins scored on a penalty kick with 33 seconds to play in the game.  SHU improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in PSAC play.

The Griffins got on the scoreboard first when Dilveer Chaggar, playing in his first contest of the season, found Matt Luchetti to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead at the 33:50 mark of the first half.  SHU led 1-0 at the halftime break.  SHU pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute.  Jack Wardale sent in a cross that was drilled into the back of the net by Bovey Masiole.  Less than 9 minutes later, Bloomsburg got their first goal of the contest on a penalty kick to trim the lead to 2-1.  Just about 5 minutes later, the Griffins could not clear the ball from in front of their net and Bloomsburg pounded in a loose ball to tie the score at 2.  The game looked to be heading to an overtime period before the Griffins were awarded a penalty kick because of a handball in the box with 33 seconds to play in the half.  Joe Tchimou scored on the penalty kick to give the Griffins a 3-2 lead.  Jordan Sodhi made 7 saves in net to earn the win.

The Griffins will host Lock Haven at 2:30 PM on Saturday.
