On Tuesday night the #7 Griffins hosted the #10 Bobcats of WV Wesleyan in the first round of the WVIAC tournament. The Griffins held on and defeated the Bobcats 66-63.
In first half action the lead changed 10 times as each team battled to gain an advantage. With 7:30 on the clock the game was tied 20-20. The Griffins then gained some offensive power with a
David Windsor layup, a three pointer from
Oliver McGlade, and a lay in from
Kameron Taylor to give the Griffins the largest lead of the half 27-21 at the 5:27 mark. The Bobcats managed to bring the contest back to a one-possession game 29-27 with 1:46 remaining. However,
David Windsor sunk a three pointer from downtown at the buzzer to send Seton Hill into halftime with a 32-27 advantage over the Bobcats.
In the second half the Griffins started off with four straight points from
Kameron Taylor to extend the Seton Hill lead 36-27. Over the next five minutes the Bobcats made up the point deficit and only trailed the Griffins by 1 point 41-40 at the 13:35 mark. The Griffins then gained momentum and outscored the Bobcats 18-4 giving them a commanding 59-44 lead with 5:09 remaining in the contest. The Bobcats continued to work and cut the lead to 11 points 66-55 with 1:18 left. It was not over as the Bobcats were relentless scoring 8 unanswered points in the final minute of play making it a 66-63 ball game with .7 seconds remaining and possession in their favor. However, the Griffins played lockdown defense and the Bobcats were unable to get a good look at the bucket clinching the victory for the Griffins.
Nate Perry and
David Windsor who both scored 15 points apiece led the Griffins offense.
Kameron Taylor added 10 points in the Griffin victory. The win at home advances Seton Hill to the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Griffins will play at 3:00PM on Thursday, February 28 at the Charleston Civic Center.
