Seton Hill jumped out to a 14 point halftime lead and never looked back in rolling to a 90-60 victory over WV Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins shot 52% from the floor in the game. SHU improves to 15-11 overall and 12-8 in WVIAC play.
The first six minutes of the contest were very tightly played with the game being tied three times. The last tie at 13-13 with 13:44 to play in the half. Over the next four minutes the Griffins went on a 14-4 run to take a 27-17 lead with 9:51 left. SHU was able to extend their lead to as many as 17 in the half. A three pointer from
Kelly Brennan gave the Griffins a 43-29 halftime lead.
Seton Hill came on in the second half with guns a blazing and went on a 21-4 run to open the half and put the game out of reach. A layin from
Paige Alviani pushed the lead to 64-35 with 13:32 to play in the contest. Wesleyan scored the next five points but a jumper from
Mallory Sanner ended the mini Wesleyan run. The Griffins pushed the lead to 30 on a
Meghan Mastroianni basket with 8:10 to play. Wesleyan then answered with a 7-0 run before a Sanner three pushed the lead back to 75-49 with 6:03 to play. Seton Hill pushed the lead back to 30 four more times in the half and rolled to the 90-60 victory.
Katie Gattuso posted another double double with 24 points and 10 rebounds on 11-15 shooting from the floor. She also added 4 assists.
Paige Alviani followed with 20 points and 6 rebounds.
Kelly Brennan scored 15 points off the bench.
Tiara Stossel just missed double figures with 9 and
Meghan Mastroianni nearly missed a double double with 8 points and a game high 12 rebounds.
Seton Hill will host Fairmont State on Thursday evening in a key WVIAC contest. Tip is set for 5:30 PM and it will be Senior Night on the hill.
