Griffins Season Comes to End with 3-0 Loss to Clarion in Atlantic Regional

Seton Hill made school history on Thursday afternoon when they competed in their first ever NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.  The Griffins, the number seven seed in the tournament took on the number two seed Clarion.  Clarion took the first set by a 25-19 score and followed that with a 30-28 victory in the second set.  The Golden Eagles completed the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third set.  SHU ends the season at 26-12.
 
SHU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on a block from Shelby Kyllo and Cassie Hausfeld and a Clarion attack error.  Back to back kills from Corrine Gahagen and Courtney Field pushed the Griffin lead to 7-4.  Jenna Snyder snuck one over the net for a 10-7 Griffin advantage early in the set.  A kill from Kelsey Profio and another Clarion hitting error forced a Clarion timeout at 12-7.  The Golden Eagles then ran off seven straight points to force a Griffin timeout.  A block from Profio and Kyllo ended the run.  Clarion was able to push the advantage to 20-16 after an ace.  Kills from Snyder and Gahagen trimmed the lead to two at 20-18.  Two in a row from Clarion forced the second Griffin timeout.  Clarion closed out the first set at 25-19.  Gahagen led the Griffins with 3 kills in the set. 
 
The Griffins were able take an early 3-2 lead in the second set.  Back to back kills from Gahagen pushed the lead to 6-4 early in the set.  Clarion was able to battle back and take a 9-7 lead.  Blocks from Kyllo and Gahagen kept the set tight at 10-9.  A Clarion hitting error tied the set at ten.  Kyllo then tied the score at twelve with a kill.  Hausfeld's kill tied the set at fourteen.  A left handed kill from Gahagen gave SHU a 15-14 lead.  Gahagen gave the Griffins a 17-16 lead.  The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 20-18 forcing a SHU timeout.  Back to back kills from the Griffin middles tied the set at 20.  Profio gave SHU a 21-20 lead.  Snyder tied the set at 22 and a ball handling error on Clarion gave SHU a 23-22 lead.  A Clarion service error gave the Griffins a set point at 24-23.  Clarion tied the set at 24.  A hitting error by the Griffins gave the Eagles their first set point of the set.  Gahagen gave the Grififns their second set point at 26-25.  Another SHU hitting error tied it at 26.  Gahagen gave SHU their third set point at 27-26.  Clarion held off the third set point and got their own set point at 28-27.  A ball handling error tied the set at 28.  Clarion closed out the set with two kills. 
 
The Griffins again took an early lead in the third set at 5-3.  Gahagen continued her stellar play with a kill that made the score 6-3.  Another Gahagen kill pushed the lead to 7-5.  Hausfeld kept the lead at two with a kill at 10-8.  Another Gahagen kill gave SHU a 12-10 lead.  Clarion went on a 5-1 run that forced a Griffin timeout.  Clarion was then able to push their lead to 18-14 forcing another Griffin timeout.  Kyllo's kill trimmed the Clarion lead to 20-17.  Clarion closed out the Griffins in the third set by the score of 25-21. 
 
Corrine Gahagen led the Griffins with 13 kills.  Cassie Hausfeld added 7.  Courtney Field added 33 assists.  Hausfeld also added 17 digs.  Lauren Teed finished with 15 digs and Katie Bloomgren added 14.
