The Griffins closed out their 2013 part of the schedule with a PSAC crossover at Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. Seton Hill continued to battle the entire contest but could not take a lead and fell by the score of 82-71. SHU falls to 6-5 overall.
Tiara Stossel scored the first four points of the game for the Griffins as they held an 8-6 lead at the under sixteen media timeout. Ship then went on a 9-3 run with Stossel scoring the only three points and led 15-11 with 11:19 to play in the half. The Griffin offense continued to sputter as they only managed three free throws over a four minute stretch and trailed 22-14 with 7:45 to play in the half. Ship was able to extend their lead to 27-14 before the Griffins closed the halftime deficit to 33-25. Stossel led the Griffins with 10 points at the half.
SHU came out of the second half strong and trimmed the lead to 35-32 with 18:20 to play but Ship was able to extend the lead back to 46-35 at the under 16 media timeout. Shippensburg was able to hold its lead at eleven over the next four minutes and led 55-44 at the under 12 media timeout. SHU was able to cut the lead to 55-50 after a
Mallory Sanner lay up after a Sanner steal at the 9:25 mark. A basket from
Paige Alviani trimmed the lead to 55-52 with 8:15 left. A three from Alviani cut the lead to two at 57-55 but Ship was able to extend the lead back to 66-58 with 3:57 to play. The Raiders were able to put the game away at the free throw line.
Tiara Stossel and
Katie Gattuso each scored 18 points in the contest.
Paige Alviani added 14 points and
Meghan Mastroianni finished the contest with 8 points.
Seton Hill will travel to Kutztown and Mansfield after the new year on January 3
rd and 4
th.
