Griffins Overcome Slow Start for 59-46 Victory over Cheyney

The Griffins overcame a slow start out of the gate and defeated visiting Cheyney University by the score of 59-46 on Tuesday evening.  With the victory, the Griffins improve to 6-3 overall.

The start of the game was a back and forth affair with the game being tied five times with the last being at 10-10 with 12:44 to play after a basket from Katie Gattuso.  The visitors were then able to take a 17-12 lead with just under 10 minutes to play in the half.  A three point play from Paige Alviani and a basket from Kelly Brennan tied the score at 17 with 5:11 to play.  Brennan then drilled a three pointer to give SHU a 20-17 lead, a lead they would hold for the rest of the contest.  The Griffins then closed the half on a 21-3 run to take a 33-20 lead into the halftime break. 

The Griffins were able to extend their lead to as many as 18 points early in the second half.  Cheyney was able to cut the lead to 11 points twice in the half but that was as close as they would get as the Griffins were able to secure the 59-46 victory. 

Kelly Brennan led the Griffins with 15 points.  She also added 3 assists and 3 steals.  Paige Alviani added 13 points with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.  Katie Gattuso posted a double double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Tiara Stossel just missed double figures with 9 points.

Seton Hill will host Millersville on Wednesday evening at 5:30 PM.
