#2 Gannon Too Much for Griffins

The Griffins hosted #2 Gannon in the McKenna Center on Saturday afternoon.  The Knights led throughout the entire contest and improved to 4-0 with an 80-66 victory over the Griffins.  SHU drops its second straight and falls to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in PSAC West play.

Meghan Mastroianni tried to keep the Griffins in the contest early as she scored the first four points for the Griffins as they trailed 5-4 with 18:35 to play in the half.  Gannon went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 15-4 lead.  The Knights started the contest hitting 7 of their first 8 shots.  Katie Gattuso hit a layup with 11:41 to play to trim the lead to 19-10.  Gannon then scored 11 of the next 13 points to push the lead to 18 at 30-12.  SHU then began to trim the lead and after a basket from Mastroianni and a free throw from Gattuso, trailed 42-33 at the halftime break. 

Two free throws from Mallory Sanner cut the lead to 44-35 with 18:50 to play in the half but that was as close as the Griffins would get the rest of the half.  The Knights would push their lead to as many as 23 points before settling for an 80-66 victory.

The Griffins were led by Katie Gattuso who posted another double double with 20 points and 13 rebounds.  Meghan Mastroianni was the only other Griffin to reach double figures with 10 points.  Paige Alviani just missed double figures with 9 points.  Mallory Sanner added 6 points and 4 rebounds.

The Griffins will look to end the two game slide when they host Johnson C. Smith of the CIAA next Saturday at 1 PM.
