Griffins Pick up First PSAC West Victory

The Griffins earned their first PSAC West victory on Saturday afternoon when they defeated the Gannon University Knights in the McKenna Center.  Seton Hill won the low scoring contest by a 56-52 margin.  SHU improves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in PSAC West play. 

Seton Hill jumped all over the Knights, taking a quick 7-0 lead on a three pointer from Oliver McGlade and two baskets from Max Kenyi and Kameron Taylor.  After a Gannon timeout, they responded with a 10-2 run of their own to take a 10-9 lead.  SHU answered with a 9-0 run of their own, with a Nate Perry three giving the Grififns an 18-10 lead with 9:15 to play.  With the score 22-14, Gannon went on a 9-0 run of their own to lead 23-22 with 4:09 left in the first half.  David Windsor hit a three to put the Griffins back ahead and a three point play from Taylor gave the Griffins a 28-26 lead.  Two free throws from Kenyi gave the Griffins a 30-28 halftime lead.

The second half was tightly contested with neither team holding more than a four point lead and the game being tied 10 times in the half.  The eighth tie of the half was at 48 with just over five minutes to play in the half.  McGlade hit a layin to give SHU a 50-48 lead.  Two free throws from the Knights tied the score at 50.  Taylor hit a free throw with 4:27 to play to give the Griffins a 51-50 lead.  Gannon took a one point lead with two free throws.  McGlade was then fouled while shooting a three and hit all three free throws with 1:17 to play giving SHU a 54-52 lead.  The Griffins forced a Gannon turnover on the next possession and after an offensive foul on the Griffins, the defense got one more stop and Windsor iced the game with two free throws with three seconds remaining in the half.  Gannon went the final 8:31 without making a field goal.

Malachi Leonard led the Griffins with 19 points.  Max Kenyi added 14 points.  Oliver McGlade finsihed with 8 points and Kameron Taylor added 7 points.

The Griffins will travel to Ashland on Tuesday evening for a non conference contest.  Tip is set for 7:30 PM.
