Football Falls 40-21 at Gannon

The Griffin football team jumped out to a 14-0 lead but could not hold that lead and dropped a 40-21 decision on the road at Gannon in PSAC West play.  With the loss, the Griffins fall to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in PSAC West play.

The game started off on the right foot for the Griffins as Norman Darden took the opening kickoff back 90 yards for a touchdown to give the Griffins a quick 7-0 lead just 15 seconds into the contest.  After forcing a Gannon punt, the Griffins took over at their own 28 yard line.  Seven plays later Jarvis McClam found Khalil Howard with a 10 yard touchdown pass to give SHU a 14-0 lead with 9:03 to play in the first quarter.  A bad snap on a punt gave Gannon the ball at the Griffin 1 yard line and they punched it in one play later to cut the Griffins lead to 14-7 with 2:32 to play in the first.  Gannon then took advantage on a Griffin interception late in the first quarter to tie the score at 14 early in the second quarter. 

Another bad snap on a punt gave Gannon great field position and they went 15 yards to take a 21-14 lead with 8:43 remaining before the half.  McClam then went 60 yards on the first play of the Griffins next possession then scored from five yards out to tie the score at 21 with 7:24 to play before the half.  Gannon scored once more before the half, on an 8 yard run to take a 28-21 halftime lead. 

Gannon scored the only points of the third quarter on a two yard touchdown run and closed out the scoring with a safety and field goal in the fourth quarter.

Khalil Howard led the Griffins on the ground with 78 yards on 21 carries.  Jarvis McClam added 65 yards and a touchdown.  Tyler Zimmer led the Griffins with 13 tackles including 3 for loss.  Arthur Tsapdong added 12 tackles and 2 for loss.

Seton Hill will close out PSAC West play and their home schedule next week when they host Slippery Rock on Senior Day.  Kickoff is set for 12:30 PM.
