The Griffin football team lost a shootout at Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. Points were a plenty as the Red Raiders defeated the Griffins by the score of 73-27. The Griffins fall to 0-5 overall.
The Griffins took a 7-0 lead after a Shippensburg turnover when
Nick Halfhill hit
Erik Kerns with a 16 yard touchdown pass just over two minutes into the contest. Shippensburg then scored the next four touchdowns to extend their lead to 28-7 after the first quarter. The Red Raiders pushed their lead to 35-7 with an 11 yard touchdown pass in the early parts of the second quarter. Seton Hill answered right back with a two yard touchdown run from
Trae Cook after a 90 yard kickoff return from
Norman Darden. Another Zach Zulli TD run gave Shippensburg a 42-13 lead with 5:54 to play in the second quarter. The Griffins closed out the scoring in the first half with a 5 yard touchdown pass from
Lenny Dowell to
Erik Kerns with six seconds to play in the second quarter which trimmed lead to 42-20 at the half.
Shippensburg scored eight minutes into the third quarter on a 14 yard touchdown pass.
Jarvis McClam then scored on a 24 yard touchdown scamper that cut the lead to 49-27 with 4:08 to play in the third quarter. Shippensburg then scored twice to close out the quarter with a 63-27 lead. The Red Raiders added on with a short TD run early in the fourth quarter.
Erik Kerns catches two touchdowns for 21 yards.
Jarvis McClam rushes for 55 yards and 1 touchdown. Bryant Harper and
Nicholas Boynton each have 9 tackles.
Seton Hill returns to action next Saturday when they host Mercyhurst at 3 PM.
