The Griffins dropped their sixth straight to open the season after dropping a 50-19 decision to Mercyhurst at Offutt Field on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Griffins fall to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in PSAC West play.
Mercyhurst jumped out to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter on two touchdown passes and a 19 yard field goal. The Griffins cut the lead to 17-7 with 12:06 to play in the second following an 8 play 78 yard drive capped by a two yard touchdown run from Denzell Jackson. Mercyhurst closed out the scoring in the first half with two touchdown runs to take a 31-7 lead into the halftime break.
The Lakers scored all 12 of the points in the third quarterto push their lead to 43-7 after three quarters of play. They started the scoring with a 28 yard field goal, got two points on a safety and then closed out the third quarter scoring with a 16 yard touchdown reception. The Griffins scored the first points of the fourth quarter when
Lance Williams caught a 7 yard touchdown pass from
Rafal Garcarz. After a 51 yard touchdown run by Mercyhurst, Jackson closed out the scoring with his second touchdown run of the game, this time from 3 yards out.
The total yardage in the contest was alot closer than the scoreboard showed with Mercyhurst outgaining the Griffins by a 485-392 margin. Mercyhurst racked up 22 first downs to 21 for the Griffins. Denzell Jackson led the Griffins with 11 carries for 51 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Rafal Garcarz was 19-30 for 193 yards and 1 touchdown.
Erik Kerns pulled down 10 catches for 115 yards.
Nicholas Boynton led the defense with 12 tackles.
Seton Hill remains home next weekend when they host California (PA) in a 3 PM kickoff.
