Griffin Men Drop 80-74 Decision to Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score The Griffin men saw their three game winning streak come to an end following an 80-74 home loss to Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday afternoon.  SHU led by 11 at the halftime break but was unable to hold the lead in the second half.  Seton Hill falls to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in WVIAC play.  WJU improves to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in WVIAC play.

After a three pointer from Wheeling Jesuit's Joe Prati to open the contest, the Griffins never trailed again in the first half.  Oliver McGlade matched Prati's three pointer and from that point on it was all Griffins in the first half.  SHU followed McGlade's 3 with 6 more points to take a 9-3 lead with 17:31 to play in the first half.  SHU was able to extend their lead to 8 points at 13-5 with just under 16 minutes left.  Wheeling was able to battle back and cut the lead to 1 at 18-17 with 13:04 to play.  Nate Perry scored 4 straight points to push the lead back to 8 at 26-18 with 8:09 to play.  WJU then used a run of its own to tie the contest at 35 with 2:50 to play.  SHU then closed out the half on an 11-0 run on three pointers from David Windsor, two from McGlade and a jumper from Malachi Leonard to take a 46-35 halftime lead.

Wheeling came out fast in the second half and used a 13-4 run to cut the lead to 50-48 with 16:35 to play.  Every time Wheeling would make a run, the Griffins would respond in the early part of the second half.  Wheeling cut the SHU lead to 1 twice but back to back three's from Kameron Taylor pushed the lead back to 67-60 with 8:15 to play.  Leonard gave the Griffins a 69-63 lead on a jumper with 7:16 to play but the Griffins would go over 7 minutes before their next bucket.  Wheeling took a 71-69 lead with 4:37 to play, their first since the first basket of the game.  Two big layin's from Ben Siefert kept Wheeling ahead by at least three and the Cardinals closed out the contest by hitting 5-6 free throws.

Malachi Leonard led the Griffins with 23 points.  He added 9 rebounds as well.  Oliver McGlade followed with 12 points.  Max Kenyi tossed in 11 and Kameron Taylor rounded out the Griffins in double figures with 10.  Lenjo Kilo just missed a double double with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Seton Hill will return to the court on Monday evening when they travel to Fairmont State.  Tip off is set for 6 PM.
