The Seton Hill basketball team could not overcome 22 turnovers, including 13 in the first half as they fell to Concord at home by the score of 85-70. Concord took advantage of the 13 first half Griffin turnovers to jump out to a 45-25 halftime advantage and the Griffins could get no closer than 11 in the second half. Concord improves to 5-12 overall and 4-7 in WVIAC play. Seton Hill falls to 11-9 overall and 8-6 in WVIAC play. Seton Hill has dropped four of their last five.
The Griffins started off the game hot, taking a quick 5-0 lead on a basket from
Clare Berenato, a free throw from
Meghan Mastroianni and a jumper from
Paige Alviani. Seton Hill held the lead until the 14:34 mark when Concord took an 11-9 lead, a lead they would not give up. CU used a 16-3 run to take a 22-12 lead with 9:34 left in the first half. SHU closed back to within 8 on an Alviani lay in with 7:24 to play in the half but over the next 6 minutes Concord outscored the Griffins 19-4 to push the lead to 23 with 1:08 to play in the half. Kelly Brennan and a basket from
Tiara Stossel cut the lead to 20 at the break.
Seton Hill scored the first four points of the second half to cut the lead to 16 but Concord was able to withstand the SHU pressure and even built the lead back up to 24 at the 14 minute mark. SHU continued to battle and after another Brennan three trailed by 16 at 62-46 with 11:12 to play. The Griffins made one final run at Concord and cut the lead to 11 with 4:48 to play but Concord was able to put the game away at the free throw line and secured the 85-70 victory.
Kelly Brennan led the Griffins with 19 points.
Katie Gattuso pulled down a double double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Paige Alviani added 15 points and
Tiara Stossel was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 10.
Seton Hill will look to get back on track on Thursday when they host Davis & Elkins. Tip is set for 5:30 PM.
