Griffin Fall on Homecoming to WV State, 21-13

Box Score The Griffin football team just out to a 13-0 lead before giving up 21 unanswered points to fall by the score of 21-13 at home to WV State on a homecoming Saturday afternoon.  The loss is the fifth staright for the Griffins to open the season.

Seton Hill took the opening kick and traveled 56 yards and settled for a 41 yard Josh Cavalier field goal.  Cavalier booted his second field goal of the game, this time from 42 yards out to give SHU a 6-0 lead with 3:50 to play in the first period.  Derrick Dyer then scored from 31 yards out early in the second quarter to give the Griffins a 13-0 lead.  From that point on it was all WV State.  State cut the lead to 13-7 with a score with 8 minutes to go in the second quarter.

The third quarter was scoreless.  After a Seton Hill fumble early in the fourth quarter, WV State took advantage and scored the go ahead score on a 35 yard TD reception.  State was then able to convert following a 2nd and 35 and then drove down the field to go ahead 21-13 following a 26 yard TD reception.  Seton Hill had two chances late but Ryan Morris was picked off on two drives that ended the Griffins scoring threat.

The Griffns were able to outgain WV State by a 333-291 margin and had 18 first downs to 16 for State but it was not enough.  Ryan Morris finished the game 31-53 for 266 yards.  Derrick Dyer had 6 carries for 62 yards and 1 score.  DJ Carter pulled in 7 receptions for 65 yards.  Mike Allen and Niko Hall-Brown each had 6 receptions.  Tyler Zimmer led the Griffins with 14 tackles.

Seton Hill will travel to Charleston next weekend.
