Box Score Seton Hill University matched up against the visiting Golden Eagles of Clarion University on Tuesday night for their home opener. The Griffins were able to clinch the victory in the fourth set, defeating Clarion 3-1.
In set one Seton Hill led for most of the time, however the Golden Eagles made a comeback and tied the match 21-21. The Griffins then earned three straight points to take a 24-21 advantage. Clarion countered with a point to make it a 24-22 set but that didn't make a difference as
Courtney Field hit a ball over on two to earn the set at 25-22. In set two Clarion came out fighting, taking a 10-3 lead over Seton Hill. From that point on the Golden Eagles had control over the Griffins defeating them 25-13.
In set three both teams battled to get the upper hand as the set continued to go back and forth. The Griffins led the Golden Eagles 21-16 then Clarion managed to earn two more points to close in on the Griffins at 21-18. Seton Hill scored the last four points and ended the set with an ace by
Katie Bloomgren. In set four Seton Hill led again early 14-10. The Griffins continued to extend their advantage over the Golden Eagles to 20-14. Clarion then scored the next five points, making it a 20-19 contest. The set soon became tied 21-21. A kill by
Christina Donahoe, an ace by
Katie Bloomgren, and two Clarion hitting errors ended the set with Seton Hill winning 25-21.
Abigail Malsch led the Griffins with 11 kills.
Christina Donahoe had 8 kills and
Shelby Kyllo and
Larissa Santangelo each had 7.
Courtney Field fished the match with 21 kills while
Kelsey Profio added 17.
Katie Bloomgren led the squad with 19 digs while
Lauren Teed was right behind with 18. Kyllo also finished with 10 blocks.
With the win, Seton Hill improves to 5-7 overall. The Griffins match up next against Shepherd University in their first WVIAC contest of the season at home at 7:00PM. It will be broadcast live on the
Westmoreland Sports Network.
