Box Score The Griffin football team didnt open the season the way they wanted to after being defeated by Slippery Rock, 52-6, in both team's season openers. Seton Hill finished the game with -16 yards rushing and were outgained by the Rock by a 309-191 margin. Penalties were also a problem for the Griffins as they were penalized 15 times for 107 yards.
Seton Hill won the toss and choose to kick and forced a three and out on the Rock's first possession of the game. After a SHU three and out, the Rock went 43 yards in 5 plays to take a 7-0 lead. SRU scored on their next two possessions to take a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter. Things got worse for the Griffins as
Ryan Morris was picked off and the interception was returned 50 yards to give SRU a 28-0 lead. The Rock scored once more and took a 35-0 lead into the halftime break.
Slippery Rock scored the first 10 points of the second half and led 45-0 with over 12 minutes to play in the third quarter. The Griffins then put together their best drive of the contest, going 96 yards in 12 plays.
Tavin Davis capped off the drive with a 1 yard touchdown run. The Rock closed out the scoring with a touchdown on their next drive.
Ryan Morris finished the game 20 of 42 for 207 yards.
Derrick Dyer rushed for 9 yards on 6 carries.
DJ Carter was the top wide out with 5 catches for 74 yards.
Tyler Zimmer was all over the field for the Griffin defense, finishing the game with 17 total tackles, 5 for loss. Zimmer also added 3.5 sacks.
Seton Hill will look to rebound next Saturday when they travel to Urbana for a noon kickoff.
