Former Griffin standout wide receiver Sammy Tranks had an impressive debut with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadien Football League this past Saturday evening. Tranks caught three passes for 48 yards including a 22 yard touchdown reception on a screen play to give the Argonauts a 17-3 lead in the game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Tranks signed with Toronto this past June 1st as a free agent. He began the season on the injured list and moved to the practice squad on July 19th before making his debut on Saturday. Sammy was signed and released by Tulsa of the AFL earlier this season.
Tranks played four seasons at Seton Hill. He finished his career with 136 receptions for 1,896 yards and 18 touchdowns, 55 punt returns for 732 yards and 5 touchdowns, and 124 kickoff returns for 2,752 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sammy holds multiple school records including single game receptions (9), single game receiving yards (165), single season receiving yards (865), single season receptions (63), career receptions (136), and Sammy holds all school records for returns (kick and punt).
