The Griffin men returned to action after the holiday break with a WVIAC matchup at WV Wesleyan on Monday afternoon. SHU used a big run in the first half to pull away and cruise to a 79-68 victory. The Griffins have now won three in a row and improve to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in WVIAC play.
WV Wesleyan jumped out to a quick 10-6 lead just 5 minutes into the contest. From that point on it was all Griffins. Over the next 6 minutes the Griffins outscored the Bobcats 18-2 to take a 24-12 lead with 9:03 to play.
Max Kenyi's three pointer gave the Griffins their largest lead of the half at 30-15 with 6:27 to play. Wesleyan was able to cut the SHU lead to 9 before the Griffins retook control and took a 39-25 halftime lead into the locker room.
The Griffins continued to control play in the second half and took their largest lead of the game, 58-32, on a
Oliver McGlade three with 13:30 remaining in the half. Wesleyan cut the SHU lead to 18 at 65-47 before two
Malachi Leonard free throws pushed the lead back to 20 with under 7 minutes to play in the contest. SHU continued to hold the double digit lead throughout the half and came away with the 79-68 victory.
Four Griffins reached double figures, led by
Max Kenyi who finished with 21.
Malachi Leonard followed with 17 points and 7 rebounds.
Lenjo Kilo tossed in 16 and
Oliver McGlade added 13.
SHU will return to WVIAC action on Saturday when they host Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
