Box Score The Griffin men opened their 2012-13 season with a home WVIAC matchup with WV State. Seton Hill came out of the gates fast, jumping out to a quick 14-4 lead but WV State was able to battle back and win the game by a 58-57 score. The Griffins begin the season at 0-1 overall and 0-1 in WVIAC play.
Seton Hill stormed out of the gates early jumping all over the Yellow Jackets and took a 14-4 lead just over five minutes into the contest on a three pointer from
Oliver McGlade. WV State was able to cut into that lead and trimmed the lead to 3 at 16-13 with just over 10 minutes to play in the half.
David Windsor hit a layup to push the lead back to five with 9:10 to play.
Max Kenyi's jumper gave the Griffins a 20-17 lead with 7:24 left. State then went on a 7-0 run to take a 24-20 lead with four minutes left.
Malachi Leonard hit a jumper with 40 seconds to play in the half to send the Griffins to the locker room with a 27-26 lead.
WV State controlled the first 10 minutes of the second half, thanks in part to two technical fouls on the Griffins. State was able to take a 45-33 lead with 11:40 left in the second half. Seton Hill was then able to battle back in the contest and after two free throws from Kenyi, trailed just 49-46 with just over 9 minutes to play. State hit a three to push the lead back to six but
Kameron Taylor answered right back with a three and the lead was back to three with 6:32 to play. State hit a bucket but Leonard answered with four points of his own and the Griffins trailed by just 1 at 54-53 with 4:24 to play in the half. State hit a jumper and Taylor answered back to keep the lead at one. Kenyi then got a steal and Taylor converted with a bucket to give the Griffins a 56-55 lead with 3:26 left. State hit a layin on their next possession to take a 57-56 lead and the Griffins could not buy a basket the final 2 minutes a fell by a 57-56 score.
Max Kenyi led the Griffins with 16 points.
Malachi Leonard followed with 13 and
David Windsor was the third Griffin in double figures with 11. Leonard also added 4 blocks and 5 rebounds.
Seton Hill will play Washington Adventist at Indiana on Saturday before taking on the home standing Crimson Hawks on Sunday evening.
