Seton Hill battled the University of Charleston in the WVIAC Tournament Volleyball Semifinal on Friday afternoon in the Eddie Gym Gymnasium on the campus of the University of Charleston. Seton Hill defeated Charleston by a 3-0 margin to earn their first trip to the WVIAC Volleyball Championship. Seton Hill will battle Wheeling Jesuit at 2 PM on Saturday afternoon at the University of Charleston. Seton Hill improves to 22-11 on the season.
Charleston jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set. SHU went on a 3-0 run to tie the set a four.
Corrine Gahagen and
Christina Donahoe combined on a block to tie the set at seven.
Abigail Malsch tied the set at nine. Gahagen gives the Griffins their first lead of the set at 10-9. Gahagen gets another block to give SHU an 11-10 lead. SHU takes a 13-11 lead forcing a UC timeout. UC came back to tie the set at 14. Gahagen gets another kill to give SHU a 17-14 lead. A UC attack error gives the Griffins a 18-14 lead. Gahagen extends the lead to 20-14.
Larissa Santangelo pushes the lead 23-16. Donahoe ends the set with a kill at 25-16.
Charleston went on a 6-0 run to take a 6-2 lead early in the second set. SHU scored 3 in a row to cut the lead to 6-5.
Katie Bloomgren's ace tied the set at seven. UC scored the next three points to take a 10-7 lead. Donahoe gets her second kill of the set to cut the lead to 10-9.
Lauren Teed follows with an ace to ties the set at ten. Malsch ties the set at 12 with a kill. Malsch cuts the lead to 15-14 and follows with another kill to tie the set at 15. Kyllo gives the Griffins a 16-15 lead and forcing a UC timeout. Kyllo and Donahoe combined on a block and SHU led 18-16. Kyllo followed with a kill and UC took their final timeout at 19-16. UC scores four straight and takes a 20-19 lead. Kyllo ties the set at 20. Donahoe ties the set at 21 with a kill. A ball handling error gives the Griffins a 23-22 lead. Profio gives the Griffins a set point with a kill. UC scores two to tie it at 24. Malsch gives the Griffins a 25-24 lead. A UC error gives the Griffins a 2-0 lead with a 26-24 set two win.
Seton Hill takes an early 3-2 lead in the third set. SHU runs off three straight points to take a 6-3 lead. UC answers with 5 straight to take an 8-6 lead. Donahoe gives the Griffins an 11-10 lead and Gahagen follows with a block to extend the lead to 12-10. Malsch gives the Griffins a 14-11 lead. Gahagen picks up an ace to give SHU a 16-12 lead. A UC hitting error gives the Griffins a 17-12 lead and UC calls a timeout. Santangelo and Kyllo combine on a block to make it 19-13. Kyllo follows with a solo block and SHU is five points from the finals at 20-14. Kyllo gets another solo block and makes it 21-14. Kyllo and Profio combine on a block to make it 22-14 and Donahoe and Kyllo follow with a block to make it 23-14. Malsch from the back row and SHU leads 24-15. UC scores two points to make it 24-17. Gahagen ends it with a kill and sends the Griffins to their first WVIAC Championship Match.
