Box Score The Griffins women's basketball team hosted the Knights of Gannon University in their home opener on Friday night. Seton Hill could not make up for their first half deficit during second half play and suffered a 80-55 loss.
The Knights came out of the gate strong scoring 7 straight points before
Paige Alviani put the Griffins on the board with a three to make it a 7-3 game. That was the closest Seton Hill would be to Gannon for the rest of the contest. The knights continued to control action throughout the first half and managed to extend their lead to 19 points making it a 31-12 contest at the 8:59 mark. The Griffins then gained some momentum going on a 9 point run closing in on the Knights 21-31 with 4:20 remaining in the first half. Gannon answered back advancing their lead back to 19 before the buzzer blew sending the Griffins into halftime trailing 42-23.
During the second half play was fairly even between the Griffins and the Knights. Gannon managed to score 38 points and Seton Hill managed to put 32 points on the board. However, the Griffins dug themselves to deep a hole in the first half and could not make up the point differential leading to the 80-55 defeat.
The Griffins offense was lead by
Paige Alviani and
Tiara Stossel who scored 12 points a piece.
Meghan Mastroianni and
Clare Berenato each pitched in 10 points. With the loss Seton Hill record now stands at 0-2 overall. The Griffins will host West Virginia State University next on November 20
th, in their first WVIAC match up of the year at 5:30 PM.
