Box Score On Friday night the Griffins hosted the Golden Eagles of the University of Charleston in a big time WVIAC conference match. Seton Hill entered the contest with 5-2 WVIAC record while Charleston entered with a 5-3 overall record.
In set one the Golden Eagles came out the gates strong taking an early 5-1 lead. Charleston managed to keep the four point lead and had a 13-9 advantage later in the set. The Griffins started to build momentum and was able to tie the set 16-16. The Griffins then out scored the Golden Eagles 7-3 to take a 22-18 lead. A
Larissa Santangelo kill, a Charleston error, and a
Courtney Field and
Shelby Kyllo block finished the set off with a 25-21 Griffin win.
Seton Hill carried the momentum from the first set into set two. The Griffins got out to an early 11-6 lead, which they continued to add to throughout the set. The Golden Eagles put up a valiant effort but it wasn't enough as they fell 25-12 giving Seton Hill a 2-0-match advantage.
In Set three the Griffins again took the lead early with a 9-3 start and maintained it till the end defeating the Golden Eagles 25-16 and ending the match in a 3-0 Griffin Sweep.
Abigail Malsch led the Griffin offense with 13 kills while
Corrine Gahagen and
Christina Donahoe both added 9 kills.
Courtney Field earned 29 assists and
Kelsey Profio recorded 12 assists. On the defensive end
Lauren Teed had 17 digs and
Katie Bloomgren earned 11 digs.
Shelby Kyllo had 5 blocks and Gahagen also recorded 4 blocks in the victory. With the victory the Griffins improve to 12-10 overall and 6-2 in WVIAC conference play. The Griffins next match is at home on October 20
th as Seton Hill faces West Virginia State at 1:00PM.
