Seton Hill opened their eighth straight NCAA Atlantic Regional with a matchup with #6 seed Shepherd at Russell Diethrick Park in Jamestown, NY. Shepherd put up a seven spot in the seventh inning in route to a 10-3 opening round win. SHU falls to 36-19 on the season.
Shepherd got two runners on with one out in the top of the first inning but starter
Joe Shaffer got a double play to end the inning.
Seton Hill took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. After two outs,
Mark Colella lined a ball off of starter Ryan Pansch for an infield single. He stole second and scored on a double from
Sam Vilk.
Shaffer was able to work around a hit, an error and a walk in the third, stranding runners at second and third with a strikeout to end the inning. SHU added a run in the third inning.
Craig Lewis tripled after an out and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Tyler Sullivan.
Shepherd plated two runs with a two out triple in the top of the fourth to tie the score at two. The Rams added an unearned run in the sixth inning after a two out Griffin error to take a 3-2 lead.
The Rams blew the game open with 7 runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 10-2 lead over the Griffins. The Rams took advantage of 2 walks, 2 errors to blow the game open.
The bottom of the seventh started off well for the Griffins. Colella tripled and scored on a Vilk single. A fly out and a double play ended the inning.
Colella led the Griffins at the plate, going 3-4 with 2 RBI. Vilk also added two hits.
SHU drops to the elimination bracket where they will meet the loser of the West Chester and Winston Salem State contest at 11 AM on Friday.
