Griffins Fall to West Chester 45-10 on Homecoming

The Griffin football team hosted West Chester on Saturday night at Offutt Field in Greensburg.  It was the Griffins homecoming game.  West Chester jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead and never looked back, defeating the Griffins 45-10.  SHU falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in PSAC play. 

West Chester took the opening kick and drove it to the SHU 38 yard line before the Griffin defense forced a turnover on downs.  Two penalties killed the Griffins first drive and they were forced to punt to West Chester.  The Rams capitalized and took a 3-0 lead on a 32 yard field goal with 5:34 left in the first quarter.  West Chester led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.

After the Griffins punted on their opening drive of the second quarter, West Chester drove 45 yards in 8 plays with a 19 yard TD pass giving the Rams a 10-0 lead with 10:58 left in the second quarter.  West Chester then scored on a 81 yard TD pass to extend their lead to 17-0 midway thru the second quarter.  The Griffins were driving on their next possession but a fumble at the WCU 1 yard line that went out in the end zone gave the Rams the ball back and ended a Griffin threat.  The Rams then went 80 yards in 6 plays and scored on a 32 yard TD reception to push the lead to 24-0 just before the halftime break.

Seton Hill went three and out on their first possession of the second half.  West Chester then scored on a 40 yard run to extend their lead to 31-0 with 12:46 to play in the third quarter.  The Rams scored on their next possession on a one yard TD run to lead 38-0 halfway thru the third quarter.  The Griffins then had their best drive of the game, going 83 yards in 14 plays for their first score of the game.  Brandon Stout scored from one yard out to cut the lead to 38-7 with 1:54 left in the quarter. 

West Chester scored on their second play of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 45-7.  SHU then went 38 yards in 10 plays for the final scoring of the contest.  Jesser Boulnemour hit a 43 yard field goal to cut the lead to 45-10 with 9:39 left in the half.

The Rams outgained the Griffins 546-236 and had 23 first downs to 15 for the Griffins.  Brandon Stout finished the game with 97 yards on 20 carries and 1 touchdown.  Eleven different Griffins caught a pass in the contest.  Josh Falatovich led the defense with 12 total tackles.  Donato Clemente added 8.

Seton Hill will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 2 PM kickoff.
