Kevin May returns to the Seton Hill staff for his seventh season in 2025 as the fifth head coach in the history of the football program.
May begins his first season as head coach in 2025 after spending six seasons as defensive coordinator.
Over his six seasons on the Hill, May has coached two PSAC West Defensive Athletes of the Year, one All American and two finalists for the Cliff Harris Award. Kevin has coached three All Region performers and 14 All PSAC West performers including eight first team All PSAC West selections.
In his first season on the hill, the Griffins were 11th in the PSAC in total defense. May coached All PSAC West performer Jayden Emberton-Gaines who led the Griffins in tackles with 102 and tied for the PSAC lead with 10.2 tackles per game. Defender Fardan Allen also earned All PSAC West honors.
In 2021, the Griffins finished with five wins, tying the second most in school history. The defense was third in the PSAC in points allowed and yards allowed. The defense produced two All PSAC, All Region and All Americans. In 2022, May coached the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year in Jaylen McDuffie. McDuffie also earned All Region and All American honors and was a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award. He was also named to the 2023 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute Class. The Griffins were first in the PSAC West and 11th in Division II in total defense (264 yds per game).
In 2023, May again coached the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year in Dioh Desuah. Desuah was an All Region player in addition to being a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award. Three members of the defense earned All PSAC West honors. SHU led the PSAC in sacks with 39. May's "Flex" Defense was also featured in an ESPN article in the summer following the 2023 season.
May comes to Seton Hill from Texas A&M-Kingsville where he spent the past four seasons. He spent his first three seasons there as the linebackers coach and was the special teams coordinator and safeties coach last season.
During his three seasons as linebackers coach, the Javelinas led the Lone Star Athletic Conference in sacks. As safeties coach, the team was first in the league in pass defense and third in total defense.
Prior to Kingsville, May spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Wyoming.
After graduation, Kevin spent a season coaching at his alma mater, Occidental College as a defensive assistant.
May was a four year starter at safety and outside linebacker at Occidental College. He earned the Captain's Award for leadership and Monster Award for work in the weight room.
He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Economics from Occidental and earned his Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance at Kingsville.
