JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Seton Hill scored four runs in the first inning and a run in each of the next three to advance to the next round of the PSAC Tournament with a 7-4 win over Lock Haven University on Friday afternoon.
The Griffins improve to 34-18 overall on the season. Lock Haven slips to 32-17.
Craig Lewis got the game started with a single up the middle followed by a Tyler Syllivan walk.
Tom McCarthy's sac bunt then advanced the runners. After
MP Buckley's strike out,
Sam Vilk drew a walk to load the bases.
Mark Colella's single to left score then scored Sullvan and Lewis, moving Vilk to second.
Adam Ferita's single to left center scored Vilk from second, and Colella scored on a wild pitch to give SHU a 4-0 lead.
After Lock Haven scored two in the bottom of the first, Seton Hill would score runs in each of the next three innings.
Tyler Sullivan's double to right field scored
Austin Braendel in the 2nd, Craig Lewi's double to left field scored
Adam Ferita in the 3rd, and
Tom McCarthy's solo homer in the 4th made it 7-2 in favor of the Griffins. Lock Haven would get runs in the 5th and 6th, but Seton Hill would blank the Bald Eagles in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings en route to the 7-4 win.
Perry DellaValle (3-1) picks up the win. The junior hurler spent the first 6.0 innings on the hill for the Griffins, giving up four runs (all earned) while striking out seven and walking none.
Brian Dabney relieved DellaValle in the 7th, fanning two while giving up one hit in four batters face.
Kenny Wells picked up his third save of the year, throwing the final two innings and giving up just two hits in seven batters faced.Â
Jacob Belinda picked up the loss for Lock Haven, pitching 6.0 innings for the Bald Eagles. Belinda surrendered seven runs (all earned) while striking out nine and walking six.Â
The Griffins will play on Saturday at 9:30 AM. They will play the winner of the Slippery Rock / Shippensburg game that is being played this evening. Check
