Women's Soccer Falls In PSAC Quarterfinal

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The #7 Seton Hill University women's soccer team fell to #2 Kutztown University, 3-0, in their inaugural trip to the PSAC Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Keystone Field on the campus of Kutztown University.

Seton Hill finishes the 2017 campaign with an overall record of 12-6-1. Their 12 wins are the most since joining the NCAA and are second most since the team was a member of the NAIA in 2005. Kutztown improves to 12-2-1 overall and moves on to the second round of the PSAC tournament.

Kutztown got on the board quickly as Emily Zwiercan scored just under the three minute mark in the first half. From there the two teams would battle back-and-forth as the defenses settled into the flow of the game. Seton Hill would have their opportunities, tallying six shots in the half, but the Golden Bears would hold off the Griffins offensive attack and take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Seton Hill looked to turn things around in the second half and almost doubled their offensive production. A quick shot from Emma Porteous followed by shots by Syaani Harris proved that the Griffins would not go down without a fight. However, goals by KU's Maddie Mohr in the 54th and Kristina Miller in the 72nd sealed the victory for the highly ranked Golden Bears.

For the match, Kutztown edged Seton Hill in total shots, 20-17, but lead in the shots on goal category by an 11-5 margin. The Golden Bears had seven corner kicks compared to just two for SHU. Seton Hill goalkeeper, Jessica Neill, had eight saves, while Kutztown's Jenna Bracken grabbed five. Emily LoPresti finished with five shots, and Madison Schwerzler had six. Syaani Harris had two, and four other Griffins - Emma Bearinger, Emma Porteous, Katie Kimmich, and Megan Warman - all chipped in with one shot apiece.
