Millersville Too Much For Griffins In PSAC Quarterfinals

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Seton Hill University men's soccer team battled early but could not overcome a 1-0 deficit as they fell to Millersville University, 3-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

The Griffins finish the 2017 season with an overall record of 8-10-1 (5-6-0 PSAC). Millersville, the 17th ranked team in the country and the #3 seed in the PSAC tournament, will put their now 13-4-1 overall record on the line against the #2 seeded Gannon University on Friday.

The Griffins were on the attack early when Jack Wardale's one touch shot sailed just high of the bar just 1:50 into the contest. From that point on the momentum swung into the direction of Millersville as they immediately responded with a flurry of shots toward the net. Seton Hill's Austin Iddon did his part with three quick saves in succession. However, the Marauders would break through in the 28th minute of the game when Nicholas Leinbach scored off of a Drew McMenamin assist and Millersville would take their 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Marauders would increase their lead to 2-0 when Marcus Frangakis scored off of a McClain Smith assist in the 49th minute of play. Chase Flickinger gave Millersville a 3-0 lead with a goal in the 64th and, despite a late push from the Griffins, that score would stand and the Marauders would move on to the semi-finals of the PSAC tournament.

For the match, Millersville outshot Seton Hill, 19-10 (10-2 on goal). The Marauders had three corner kicks compared to two for the Griffins. Two yellow cards were issued to Millersville players while one was issued to a Seton Hill player. Austin Iddon grabbed seven saves in all 90:00 played in goal for SHU. Darian McCauley had two saves for Millersville.
