Griffins Advance to Regional Championship Game

Box Score

The Griffins returned to the field after surviving and advancing in game one over West Chester when they battled former WVIAC foe Concord in another elimination game.  SHU took a 4-0 lead and hung on for a 4-3 win to advance to tomorrow's regional final.  SHU improves to 33-14-1 on the season.

SHU went 1-2-3 in the top of the first.  Concord got a two out double in the bottom of the first.  That runner tried to score on an error but Delaney Cortazzo threw to Jacqui Palmer at the plate to gun down the runner.  SHU broke thru for two in the top of the second.  Ashley Perillo led off with a single.  Amanda Huff followed with a single and a fielders choice by Paige Hertzog loaded the bases.  Palmer then singled back thru the middle to score two runs and give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.  The Griffins added two more runs in the third inning.  After an out, Victoria Stock reached on an infield single.  Perillo followed with a two run homer to center field to extend the lead to 4-0.

Seton Hill had runners on second and third with no one out in the fourth but could not score as three straight groundouts ended the inning.  Concord scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 4-2.  Caitlin Tobin drew a leadoff walk in the sixth and moved to second on a sac bunt from Cortazzo but two groundouts ended the threat.  The Mountain Lions got a run in the sixth but Huff got a strikeout to leave the bases loaded.  Huff got the first two outs in the seventh but walked a hitter to put a runner on first but got a groundout to first to end the game.

Ashley Perillo had two hits for the Griffins.  Amanda Huff earned the win with 3 2/3 innings of relief.  She gave up 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 2.

Seton Hill will face WV Wesleyan in tomorrow's regional championship game.  SHU will need to defeat the Bobcats twice to win the title.  Game time is set for 12 PM.
