Box Score The Griffin softball team took to the Veterans Park field in Quakertown, PA on Thursday morning making their first ever appearance in a PSAC Championship. Seton Hill made their first ever contest in the PSAC Tournament a memorable one as they defeated Kutztown by the score of 5-1 behind the arm and the bat of senior
Christine Henderson. Henderson threw a complete game, 4 hitter and was 4-4 at the plate in the win. SHU improves to 31-11-1 overall.
Christine Henderson singled with two outs in the bottom of the first but was stranded at first. The Golden Bears got a runner to third base in the top of the third with two outs but Henderson got a foul out to short to end the inning. The Griffins got on the board in the bottom of the third with three runs.
Caitlin Tobin led off the inning with a single. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Delaney Cortazzo.
Carlee Wickstrom plated the first run of the game with an RBI single to center field.
Victoria Stock reached on an infield single to put runners at first and second. Henderson then singled up the middle to score Wickstrom and give SHU a 2-0 lead.
Ashley Perillo then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Stock and increase the lead to 3-0. SHU threatened in the fourth with
Paige Hertzog at third with one out but a line out and a ground out ended the threat. The Griffins added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Stock and Henderson opened the inning with singles. Perillo reached on an error on a bunt attempt that loaded the bases. After a strikout,
Kaitlyn Kutchman hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Stock. Hertzog then reached on an error that allowed Henderson to score and give SHU the 5-0 advantage. Kutztown scored their only run of the game with a two out solo homer to left field in the sixth. Wickstrom, Stock and Henderson all singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth but Wickstrom was gunned down at the plate for the second out of the inning. A fly out ended the Griffins sixth. Kutztown had a one out single in the seventh but Henderson got two pop outs to end the game and give the Griffins their first ever PSAC postseason victory.
Christine Henderson earned her 12th win of the season in the circle with a complete game four hitter. She struck out one and walked one. Henderson also led the Griffins at the plate by going 4-4 with an RBI.
Victoria Stock added three singles and 2 runs scored while
Carlee Wickstrom added 2 singles and an RBI.
Seton Hill will take on West Chester, a 6-5 winner in 9 innings over Indiana at 4 PM this afternoon.
