Griffins Advance in NCAA Regional with 4-1 Victory over Mercyhurst

Seton Hill opened up its NCAA Atlantic Regional with a matchup with number four seed Mercyhurst at Owls Field in West Lawn, PA on Thursday evening.  Seton Hill scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh and rode the arms of

led off with a single to right.  Chris Miller then reached on a bunt single.  Matt Malacane then dropped down a bunt that was thrown away at third that allow Herald to score and put runners at second and third.  After a strikeout, Garret Vrbanic then doubled in two runs to give SHU a 3-0 advantage.  Brendan Costantino then singled in Vrbanic to increase the lead to 4-0.  The Lakers answered with a run in the top of the eighth to trim the lead to 4-1.  Jesse Cooper was able to get out of a bases loaded two out jam with a line out to left. 
 
Mike Bittel earned his eighth victory of the season.  He went 7 2/3 giving up 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 6.  Jesse Cooper earned his 15th save by closing out the contest.  Cody Herald was the lone Griffin with two hits.  Garret Vrbanic drove in two runs.  The Griffins dealt regional pitcher of the year Dan Altavilla his first loss of the season. 
 
Seton Hill advances in the NCAA Regional and will meet a familiar foe in former WVIAC conference member Shepherd.  First pitch is set for 7 PM on Friday night.
