Box Score Seton Hill opened their first PSAC Baseball Tournament with a matchup with the number four seed from the east Kutztown at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler, PA. Seton Hill could not hold on to a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth and were eliminated following a 2-1, 12 inning loss to the Golden Bears. SHU falls to 36-15 overall.
Neither team was able to put up any runs on the scoreboard in the game's first three innings as the Griffins
Mike Bittel and the Golden Bears Colin Holmes continued to put zeroes on the board. Each team managed just one hit in their first three at bats. SHU managed to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth.
Brendan Costantino led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. He moved to third on a groundout from
Cody Herald then scored on a RBI single from
Nick Sell. Kutztown threatened in the top of the sixth but a great relay throw from
Taylor Schmidt to
Garret Vrbanic to
Chris Miller nailed a Golden Bear at the plate to keep the Griffins in the lead. Kutztown was able to tie the score at one in the top of the ninth with a run off of reliever
Alex Haines. Kutztown finally broke the tie with a run in the top of the twelfth on a two out RBI base hit.
Mike Bittel was spectacular, throwing 8 scoreless innings. He gave up just 5 hits and struck out 7, throwing just 90 pitches in his 8 innings of work.
Alex Haines went 1 inning, giving up the tying run in the ninth and
Jesse Cooper suffered the loss, giving up the game winning run in the top of the 12
th. The Griffin bats managed just 6 hits in 12 innings with
Brendan Costantino and
Nick Sell each having two hits.
The Griffins now must wait until May 11
th to see if they will earn an NCAA Tournament bid.
